CHARACTERISTIC-EVALUATIVE PROPER NAMES OF THE LITERARY HEROES IN THE NOVEL "A WOMAN CAN BE TRUSTED" BY MARIA MATIOS

Abstract

Recently, the names of characters have become the object of many scientific studies, because they are important elements of a literary work. The article is devoted to the study of proper names of the literary heroes in the novel by Maria Matios "A Woman Can Be Trusted", attention is paid to their information content. The relevance of the research is due to the insufficient study of the potential possibilities of the proper names of the literary heroes, which determine the features of the author's skill, her method and style.The purpose of the study is to analyze the proper names of the literary heroes in Maria Matios's novel "A Woman Can Be Trusted"; our task is to describe the characteristic-evaluative proper names of the literary heroes, to reveal the pre-onym semantics and stylistic role of names.It is proven that proper names of the literary heroes are powerful means of characterizing heroes, they are closely intertwined with the image, they form it. The author endowed her characters with names and surnames that are characteristic of Bukovina, therefore the real anthroponymicon is the basis for naming. Significant use of canonical church and colloquial forms of Christian names has been recorded. The formation, historical development and peculiarities of functioning of proper names are closely related to religion, culture, and customs of the people. It was found that the names of the main characters are characteristically evaluative, because they contain a significant charge of information. Their role in the plot development and creation of the characters' temperament is demonstrated. M. Matios actively uses the internal form of names and surnames, the semantics of their creative basis. The names of literary characters help in creating images and characters, perform various functions, evoke emotions in the reader and indicate the author's attitude. The conducted research provides rich material for recreating real life through the prism of the writer's worldview.
