Abstract

The article presents the results of a theoretical and empirical study of the correlation between emotional intelligence and self-regulation. It has been determined that emotional intelligence (EI) is considered to be the ability of an individual to manage his own emotions and the emotions of others during interpersonal interaction. It is an integrative quality of the personality. EI consists of the following abilities: to recognize, monitor, and be aware of one’s own emotions; perceive, evaluate, and understand persons’ emotions; to motivate yourself and others (despite difficulties, persistently go towards achieving the goal); restrain impulsive actions, and control your mood. It has been found that emotional intelligence is a dynamic and integral psychological formation that determines a future psychologist’s success in interpersonal interaction with the client. It has been emphasized that the development of psychologists-students’ ability to identify emotional states is a display of their personal and professional maturity development, an essential aspect of their readiness for professional activity. It has been found that both the level of emotional intelligence development and the level of conscious self-regulation are determined as a crucial factor and indicators of professional readiness. It has been determined that the role of emotional intelligence in achieving professional success is based on future psychologists’ ability to adequately recognize the origins of their emotions and the persons’ emotions, exercise self-control on this basis, and maintain friendly relations with clients. It has been determined that indicators of students’ emotional intelligence are related to the level of self-realization as a display of the integral quality of the future specialist’s readiness for professional activity. In particular, students majoring in psychology with a high level of self-realization are indeed characterized by developed emotional intelligence, the ability to differentiate emotions, manage them, and are capable of accepting them. On the other hand, persons with a low level of self-regulation are indeed characterized by reduced indicators of emotional intelligence, difficulties in differentiation and regulation of emotions, and the ability to recognize, accept, and manage both their own emotions and the emotions of other people.
