Abstract

Successful mastering of the material by students of a higher education institution and the factors contributing to it are one of the most relevant topics for research by modern scientists. One of the most important factors affecting this is the dialogic abilities of the teacher of higher education. The most effective method of evaluating these qualities is the method of expert evaluations, when it is the students who provide evaluations of the teacher’s abilities, which gives the most objective results. The study was conducted among students of medical psychologists and teachers with different years of work at the VNMU. According to the obtained results, in the first courses of study, students pay more attention to the communicative aspects of interaction between teachers and students. In the middle and senior years, the emphasis gradually shifts towards the cognitive and operational components of the teacher’s professional competence and his motivation regarding educational activities. Students of all courses and teachers, regardless of experience, noted common factors affecting the success of the lecture. As for the lecturer’s personal qualities, there is a discrepancy here. Teachers prefer general human factors such as: “general erudition”, “correct language” and “humor”, while the student sample is dominated by specific professional qualities: “ability to explain complex things simply”, “ability to draw attention to the subject”. A significant difference was investigated between the most important personal qualities of the teacher that affect the successful conduct of the lesson. The dominance of “perfect knowledge of the subject” for all teachers remains unchanged. “The art of oratory” and “the ability to simply explain complex things” in the process of gaining pedagogical experience are inferior to such qualities as “humor” and “general erudition”. In our opinion, this is evidence that with significant pedagogical experience, the more professional qualities of a teacher become less important, and more importance is given to general human and intellectual qualities.
