Abstract

The article explores the peculiarities of the formation, functioning, and translation of neologisms in the field of interior design that have appeared in the English language over the past five years. The connection between the development of trends in interior design and technological progress, changes in the cultural and social life of individuals, their values, and views has been analyzed.A brief overview of scientific research dedicated to the study of neologisms has been presented. The relevance and necessity of their further consideration have been substantiated. The study employs the method of continuous sampling of neologisms from the Cambridge Dictionary of English. The key trends in contemporary interior design that have become a catalyst for the emergence of neologisms in the context of globalization have been identified: eclecticism, minimalism, the aesthetics of self-expression, and the desire for tranquility. The reasons for the emergence of lexical innovations in the field of design have been analyzed. The most interesting examples of new words and expressions have been presented. An analysis of lexical definitions has been performed to clarify and interpret their meaning. The etymology of new vocabulary in the field of interior design has been investigated. An interpretation of the selected neologisms into Ukrainian has been provided.A linguistic analysis of the word-formation processes of new lexical units has been conducted, among which blending proved to be the most productive, along with compounding and the reinterpretation of existing words. The semantic features of the new vocabulary and its ability to reflect key qualitative changes in contemporary views on interior design, lifestyle, and societal values, including challenging traditions and rejecting stereotypes, the pursuit of simplicity and individuality, nostalgia for the past, and the combination of beauty and functionality, have been analyzed. The study substantiates the importance of examining neologisms in the field of interior design in tracking changes in society’s way of life, transformations in technological progress, and the cultural environment.
