STYLISTIC FEATURES OF THE TRANSLATION OF BERNGARD SCHLINK’S NOVEL «THE READER»

Abstract

The article examines the process of translating Bernhard Schlink’s literary work «The Reader», in particular the difficulties associated with conveying the author’s style, the philosophical aspects of the novel, and the psychological nuances it reveals. The author analyzes how a translator should take into account not only linguistic constructions, but also socio-cultural contexts, moral dilemmas, and historical realities that form the background of the work. Since the novel has a deep emotional charge, it is important not only to accurately convey the content, but also to preserve the atmospheric tension that Schlink creates through specific language.The article pays attention to the peculiarities of lexical and syntactic units used to express the inner world of characters experiencing deep moral and psychological conflicts. It is determined that the translator, in conveying these nuances, must find a balance between accuracy and emotional intensity, while maintaining the stylistic unity of the text. The author also draws attention to the choice of appropriate equivalents for the cultural specifics contained in the original text and the importance of understanding the context for the correct interpretation and reproduction of the author’s idea.One of the central points of the study is the role of the translator as a creator who does not simply transfer words from one language to another, but is also actively involved in the process of interpreting and adapting the text to a new linguistic and cultural reality. It is highlighted that the translation of a work of art is not only a technical process, but also a deep creative act that involves significant responsibility to the original and the potential reader.The article examines various approaches to the translation of works of art that are applied to «The Reader», emphasizing the importance of preserving the internal logic and intentions of the author. It is revealed that the features of Schlink’s literary text require a special approach that is capable of preserving not only external accuracy, but also the internal essence of the original.
