Abstract

The article analyzes the anthroponymy of the novel «Amadoka» by Sofia Andrukhovych. The onymic space of the modern Ukrainian novel is a significant tool not only for the linguistic identification of characters, but also for the representation of their psychological, national and ideological characteristics. In the postmodern narrative, which the novel «Amadoka» by Sofia Andrukhovych is, anthroponyms acquire a special meaning: they not only state the names of the characters, but also function as codes of cultural memory, markers of trauma, identity and memory. The peculiarities of how personal names function, their connection with the socio-cultural context, with the writer’s artistic intention and with the structure of the text are considered. In the novel «Amadoka» by Sofia Andrukhovych, anthroponyms acquire a special meaning, because they not only state the names of the characters, but also function as codes of cultural memory, markers of trauma, identity and memory. The anthroponymicon of «Amadoka» is a system of signs that models a multi-layered memory: personal, national and historical. Sofiia Andrukhovych skillfully combines real and fictional names to create a microcosm of the lost and the preserved. Through names, she unfolds a story about trauma, identity, memory, and oblivion, creating the text to be a monument to cultural continuity. The main functions of anthroponyms are highlighted: identification, symbolic, psychological characterological, and intertextual. Attention is drawn to the interference of historical and fictional names, which reflects the multiplicity of temporal and narrative planes in the work. In the novel «Amadoka» by S. Andrukhovych, proper names do not simply denote objects or persons – they create the semantic fabric of the work, which combines: individual and collective identity, memory and oblivion, trauma and recovery, historical reality and a fictional narrative plane. This is a complex system, where each name is the key to a deeper understanding of the novel world.
