Abstract

The article examines the peculiarities of the verbalization of the concept of WORK with neologisms that appeared in the English language during the last two years. In order to create material for research, the method of continuous selection of neologisms from the Cambridge dictionary has been used. The reasons for the emergence of new vocabulary in the field of the modern labor market have been analyzed. Examples of new words and expressions have been provided. The analysis of lexical definitions has been carried out to clarify and interpret their meaning. The distribution of new lexical units has been conducted in accordance with the content features of the concept of WORK. The etymology of selected neologisms has been studied. The interpretation of lexical innovations in the Ukrainian language is presented. The methods and principles of formation of new words of the concept of WORK in the vocabulary of the English language have been defined in the article. A brief review of studies on the problem of neologisms has been given. The necessity of new approaches in their study has been substantiated. The classification of selected lexical units according to the following lexical-semantic groups that verbalize the concept of WORK has been presented: «multifaceted career», «dissatisfaction, stress, exhaustion», «gender inequality», «balance between work and personal life», «consequences of the pandemic». It has been revealed that simultaneously with the rapid development of technologies and the need for professional growth, there are problems of human adaptation to new conditions on the labor market. It has been found that the main source of active replenishment of the concept of WORK with new tokens of the English language is the concern of a contemporary person about the exhaustion and imbalance between work and personal life, which indicates important social and psychological consequences. It has been determined that the most productive way of forming neologisms of the concept of WORK is word formation. The paper substantiates the ability of the researched lexical units to be a neological representation of the concept of WORK and to convey the development trends of modern society.
