TYPOLOGY OF THE MAIN SENTENCE ELEMENTS IN THE UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE (BASED ON THE WORKS OF YURII ANDRUKHOVYCH)

Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the typology of the main sentence members in the Ukrainian language based on the works of Yuriy Andrukhovych. The study focuses on the structural-semantic features of the subject and predicate, their morphological expression, functional varieties, and stylistic transformations within the artistic discourse. Contemporary prose demonstrates authorial syntactic innovations and individual-stylistic transformations of the predicative centers of sentences, highlighting the need for a typological analysis of the main sentence members in the context of literary discourse. It has been established that the choice of structural models for subjects and predicates correlates with the author’s idiolect and the genre-specific parameters of the work. Analysis of contemporary prose material shows that individual-authorial features of syntactic organization manifest in the variability of ways the main sentence members are expressed and in the functional load of complex predicate forms. A comprehensive structuralsemantic and functional-stylistic analysis of the typology of the main sentence members in Ukrainian was conducted using Yuriy Andrukhovych’s artistic prose. An extended typological model of the subject and predicate is proposed, taking into account formal-grammatical, semantic-syntactic, and text-centered parameters of their functioning. The classificatory features of subjects and predicates in the context of literary discourse have been refined, revealing variability in their structural organization and functional load within the author’s idiolect. This approach allows for a more precise differentiation of the types of subjects and predicates according to morphological expression, structural complexity, degree of predicativity, and text-forming role. It is demonstrated that the individual-authorial style determines the functional-stylistic modification of the main sentence members, extending the limits of their traditional grammatical description and actualizing their text-forming and expressive functions.
