DIDACTIC FOCUS OF MYROSLAV DOCHYNETS’ NOVEL “KRYNYCHAR. THE DIARY OF THE RICHEST MAN IN THE MUKACHEVO DOMINION”

Abstract

The article is devoted to the works by the contemporary Transcarpathian writer, winner of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine in 2014, Myroslav Dochynets, in particular his novel “Krynychar. The diary of the richest man in the Mukachevo dominion.” The works by M. Dochynets have a definitely didactic character, which is highlighted by all researchers. Many of them consider this didacticism to be too pathetic. In this article, we intend to discuss the topic of upbringing and examine the image of the teacher in the author’s novel “Krynychar” in order to prove their importance not only in the context of Dochynets’s entire literary career but also in the context of contemporary Ukrainian literature, especially in the light of our current situation. This scientific article examines the problems of upbringing, both spiritual and physical, and the ways of developing a fully developed personality revealed by M. Dochynets, who should be listened to in modern society. Particular emphasis is placed on the actuality of the problems addressed in the novel; the author’s conceptually significant advice is examined, which will be useful not only to teachers and educators but also to the general public. A comprehensive description of the images of teachers and their teaching methods is given; their main worldview characteristics, conditions of character formation, and life experience are considered. An emphasis is placed on the wide intertextual content of the work, which is based on a combination of religious and philosophical concepts and literary ancient, medieval, and Renaissance achievements with the merits of folk pedagogy and folklore. Love, faith, hope, patience, humanity, diligence, education, and service – these concepts define the life guidelines of the author and his characters: serving God and people is their meaning of life, and the tool they use is the word. The necessity of introducing works by M. Dochynets for teaching in secondary and higher educational establishments has been proven since they are aimed at educating their readers in a humanistic way.
