Abstract

The relevance of the study is due to the close connection between politics and mass media in modern society. The mass media is the main channel for spreading political information and influencing public opinion. Political narratives created and disseminated by the mass media are an important tool of political influence. Therefore, the study of political narratives is necessary for understanding modern political processes. From a linguistic and sociocultural perspective, political and media discourses are in close interaction. This phenomenon is the subject of increasing research, but is still considered mainly as the interaction of two separate discourses, each of which has its own characteristics. The object of this study is the study of political narrative as a linguistic and cultural phenomenon. It is a complex discourse that combines political discourse and media discourse. Hereafter, we will use the term "English" to refer to both the British and American versions of this narrative. The purpose of the article is to analyze the philological phenomenon of political narrative. The realization of the goal involves solving the following tasks: 1) to investigate the phenomenon of political narrative in scientific literature; 2) summarize the results of the analysis of the phenomenon under study. Scientific novelty. It was proved for the first time that political narratives are stories told about politics. They are created by politicians and the media to influence public opinion. The author comes to the conclusion that since the discourse is a linguistic interaction that takes place in time and space, the political narrative can be considered as a plot structure consisting of actors, events and time frames. Actors of a political narrative are politicians who participate in a political event. They can be main characters, minor characters or extras. The events of a political narrative are the stages of a political event. They can be positive, negative or neutral. The time frame of a political narrative is the period during which a political event takes place. These four elements—thematic unity, actors, events, and time frame are essential to understanding a political narrative.
