Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the elite linguistic personality of the prominent figure of the late 19th – early 20th centuries. V. Simovych, who played an important role in establishing the Ukrainian word in the spiritual life of the people. The scientific interest in his creative heritage and the activation of problems associated with the study of specific linguistic personalities determine the relevance of the proposed study, the purpose of which was to clarify the features of the linguistic individualization of the scientist’s personality at the syntactic level. The material was the historical and cultural essay “In Memory of Volodymyr Hnatiuk”. The analysis confirmed the idea that V. Simovych belongs to the bright figures in Ukrainian science, who loved his native people with all his heart and multiplied the spiritual wealth of Ukraine with his selfless work. His merits include the fact that he actively studied contemporary literary life, in particular the creative work of those who remained silent for a long time, in particular the famous Ukrainian figure V. Hnatyuk, whom he knew personally and highly valued. The analysis showed that V. Simovych had a perfect command of the Ukrainian language and competently used its syntactic richness, primarily interstitial and inserted constructions and unfinished and interrupted sentences. It was established that among the interstitial units he preferred components with the meaning of authenticity, authorization, emotionally marked and those that structure the presentation of information, ensuring consistency, sequence of presentation of thoughts. A large number of interstitial constructions were also identified, which perform the functions of clarification, explanation, addition, comment, and author's assessment in the studied texts. As for unfinished and interrupted sentences, it was found that they mostly indicate the emotional state of the speech personality, provide space for reflection, and create a certain flavor. The results obtained expand and deepen the idea of V. Simovych's elitist speech personality.
