NEOLOGISMS OF MODERN INFORMATION DISCOURSE: WORD FORMATION, SEMANTICS, FUNCTIONS

Abstract

The article examines the semantic and word-formation specificity as well as the functions of neologisms based on materials from print media and Internet sources. It analyzes the motivational functions, trends, and principles of the systemic organization of the structure of new derivatives. It has been established that extralinguistic and linguistic factors, activity as a concept of language practice, and productivity as a result of word-formation activity in informational discourse presuppose the realization of derivational resources in word-formation. It is noted that the functioning and active use of neologisms in informational discourse are explained by the consideration of social needs for the nomination of processes, reified actions, and phenomena with a pragmatic orientation and their use in journalistic and literary styles. All the structural components of new words comply with the language and speech-systemic nature of the language sign and speaking practice, the activity of word-formation and morphonological models, and the derivational resources of the Ukrainian language. The study establishes that the lexico-semantic and word-formation systems actively respond to and reflect the changes in the national language. Neologisms arise through both native and borrowed resources. It is noted that there is a marked tendency to combine foreign-language stems with native formants. It is demonstrated that nationally marked neologisms, which contribute to the uniqueness and dynamism of the language, are formed predominantly by the morphological means of word formation. The innovative lexical and derivatives processes contribute to the formation and interpretation of the language picture of the world. It is noted that the actualization of the motivational content of the formant component in a derivative indicates the selection and mental functioning of the formant, orientation toward the part-of-speech affiliation of the base, the formant base characteristic of derivatives of a particular part of speech, and orientation toward grammatical, semantic, and word-formation categorization. It has been established that neologisms of contemporary information discourse perform nominative, sociocommunicative, word-formative, emotional-evaluative, compressive-informative, diagnostic, characterological, aesthetic, integrative, pragmatic, cognitive, socio-cultural, expressive, stylistic, and communicative functions
